A couple of indie singles to finish of the week, the first by Nacional who, like Thomas Tantrum, have been busy swotting up on the old testament of Indie music. This is what the children of Smiths & Wedding Present fans should be knocking out in the studio. 'Telephone' has a brooding grumbling bassline & rough jangling guitars that genuflect at the alter of Gedge! Yes this is the best Weddoes tribute I've heard in ages, his lovelorn Northern diatribe perfectly complimented by some great guitars. It's better than anything The Lodger or The Boyfriends mustered collectively and is a ltd 7" on Art/Goes/pop (sorry no time to do the flip called 'Yorkshire')

What their label says...
Nacional seem to derive their
energy from the early to mid eighties magic of bands like The June
Brides or The Wedding Present so therefore stand apart quite brightly
from today's crop, and all the better for it with two sides of catchy,
emotive indie that grab you instantly. Already being tipped by XFM and
6 Music by the time you've read this it'll probably be sold out.
Another limited 7" from the mighty Art Goes Pop label.
