Pull Tiger Tail - Mary Jane

Mary Jane by Pull Tiger Tail

3...according to our on Thu 05 Jun, 2008.

Pull Tiger Tail are a baffling proposition. They must be the briefest signing to B-Unique ever and now arrive back on previous home Young & Lost Club, battered, bruised and a little wary. They do that head noddy indie pop with soaring vocals & melodic shmindie riffs very well indeed and are starting to sound like they could just appear on a BBC3 drama series near you soon. The vocals actually remind me slightly of Mew but also some other band or three that's popular at the moment. Sorry I'm not more enthusiastic, it's just a bit too fey & melodic for my big fat head today. 'Mary Jane' is a Ltd 7" only.

Pull Tiger Tail return with a timely reminder of the magic that three men, their imaginations and a few instruments are capable of creating. 'Mary Jane' is an alt-pop gem of a single: playful yet ambitious and brimming over with the infectious melodies that make this young trio such a force to be reckoned with.
Marcus Ratcliff (vocals, guitar), Jack Hamson (drums, vocals) and Davo McConville (bass, keys, more vocals) are Pull Tiger Tail. The trio burst into the spotlight with their anthemic single 'Animator' and impressed all with their ability to channel their creative chaos into a three minute pop song that crackled with electrifying wit and energy. The singles that followed - 'Mr 100 Percent', 'Let's Lightning' and 'Hurricanes' - proved their debut was no fluke and a year's hard gigging cemented their position at the front of the alt-pop pack. After falling foul to the vicissitudes of the music industry, Pull Tiger Tail now return to their first home, Young And Lost Club, for the release of 'Mary Jane'.
Inspired by Sleeping Beauty, rather than marijuana, the majestic 'Mary Jane' was recorded on a winter's day as the snow fell around. On the flip, 'The Mariners' is a melancholy sea shanty that captures the loneliness of the ocean despite being recorded in a bedroom - "I never asked to be a sailor on such a sea as this".
Witnessing Pull Tiger Tail live is about as much fun as you can have under current health and safety legislation.
