What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Glasvegas then... The 1st time I heard them i thought they were awful. That debut 7" they did was bobbins (in my opinion).... Then they did the Daddy's Gone 7" which I thought was pretty good (for what it was) and the same goes for the last single. I saw them do Geraldine on Later (will cost your label 20 grand to appear on there you know, Jools has to buy his suits somehow) and it was then they struck me as a pretty decent band. Not something I'd ever go and buy but I can appreciate they've tapped into that Scottish indie heritage...... It's still the Mary Chain crossed with The Proclaimers and (non Scottish) Oasis but I can see people getting all excited about it and I have to say after a few listens I really don't mind it. On 2 x 7" and CD single format.

What the label says:

Fantastic debut single on Columbia from these Scottish rockers, described as a cross between The Jesus & Mary Chain & the Shangri-las. Ltd 2 trk Cd single. Ltd, numbered & coloured 7" vinyl (003) & standard 7" vinyl (004). All bonus songs are exclusive to this release. "Amid their dense wall of arranged sound, deafening drums & lyrics, which fuse violent intensity with an underlying core of vulnerability - is a recipe for pop success" Independent. "We're witnessing the birth of something special" NME.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'if you blow dry water will it go frizzy?'
