White Denim - Workout Holiday

Workout Holiday by White Denim

4...according to our on Thu 19 Jun, 2008.

There's loads of bands with 'white' in their name at the moment and similarly there's loads of bands with black in the title. Lots of bands with wolf or wolves in their name. I wonder if its just because we are running out of words or are there so many bands now there's not enough words to go around. White Denim are hamstrung by having a very bad name. Their music is thankfully more interesting scratchy no/lo -fi pop with frantically energetic drumming. The kind of strangulated vocals that bizarrely are quite reminiscent of Jack White. Elsewhere its not unlike early Black Crowes or then all of a sudden lurches off into Black Keys style lo-fi scuzzy bluesy rock. with psychedelic jams reminiscent of Black Lips. Some of the guitar thrashing is reminiscent of Walkmen (or later groups such as White Rabbits) All the while 'Workout Holiday' has the effect of having been recorded at a particular crazy party somewhere in deepest Texas. Oh and I hear there's a bit of a buzz about this lot. LP/CD on Full Time Hobby.

Zane Lowe is a big fan of the band and is supporting on Radio 1. He made the last single his Hottest Record In The World. Colin Murray and Steve Lamacq are also big fans of the band and will continue to support.
