TRACKLISTING: A) Glimmers Disko Drunk Dub, B1) Extended Version, B2) Binary Chaffinch Rework,
OVERVIEW: “Word Of Mouth” is the second single to be taken from Padded Cell’s debut album “Night Must Fall” (DCR72). A dark slab of pop-noir that pulses with punk funk energy, recalling the Au Pairs or Bush Tetras as much as the sound of early 80’s New York electro that also infused their last single “Savage Skulls” (DCR88), this is a cautionary tale of urban decay and spoiled love, as told by the beguiling voice of Chloe Raunet (of London band Battant – Kill The DJ Records). The Glimmer’s remix ups the tempo and emphasises the punk funk swagger, leaving Chloe’s vocals out in preference to the sordid street parley of an unidentified clochard. Aimed squarely at the dancefloor, this electro-fired devil’s dub will have the late night crowds quivering with distorted happiness. The second remix on this single comes courtesy of Binary Chaffinch, a shadowy figure whose bird like features are usually seen beneath a cloak of silver behind the drum kit for cosmic disco doom band Chrome Hoof – a factor most apparent in the uncommon percussive approach that has rendered the original track unrecognisable except for the vocals, and virtually incomparable with any other musical style except in terms of it’s genius.
