New single coming out by Barringtone 'Called Snake in the Grass'. Theres nothing worse than a snake. It couldn't sound more like the Cardiacs if it was an overweight bald man who called himself Jim. Quirky, wild song structures with other hints of Devo, Blur and early Futureheads.OVERVIEW: ‘Snake In The Grass’ is the debut single from Barringtone, the latest incarnation of Barry Dobbin, frontman of the now demised schizoid electronic rockers Clor. Produced by fellow sonic traveller Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco, it’s a startling, dramatic and ever so slightly deranged slice of future retro pop. The single also features the equally frenetic instrumental ‘Salad Of Despair’ as well as an alternative but no less mesmerising version of ‘Snake In The Grass’.
Picking up from where Clor left off, Barringtone and their discordant pop madness are sure to be one of the most talked about new bands of 2008. Their music oozes with the same genius jerky post punk electronic energy which will make you want to dance your sweaty socks off.
Barringtone make gloriously experimental pop music – unhinged and irresistable - with a sensibility informed by a love of Eno, Rundgren, Devo and Pavement through to contemporary artists such as Ariel Pink, Palace Music and Deerhoof.
Formed in 2007 and with the help of a guitar, a bass and a set of drums – Barringtone, aka Connan Coolidge, Boomer Opperman and Barry Dobbin, set about probing pop’s nether regions with an unseemly vigour. Insistent rhythms, monolithic bass and nonsensical guitar merge to produce something altogether unexpected - a sonic miasma of bizarre urge-driven splendour.

I think this is brilliant, clever pop-music and thoroughly enjoyable. It certainly stands apart from most of indie crossover I hear at the moment i.e. its not plodding chant-along rock with stadium pretensions. God knows we get enough of that thrown at us. Well done Barringtone! 10 thumbs up!...according to Ben Keeler.
Sound similar to Clor (obviously, considering the common vocalists) yet with more guitars and a strange twist...maybe even some Krautrock undertones? Worth a listen nonetheless! Especially if you're a lover of Clor - who isn't?
