Blue Flamingo - 78 RPM

78 RPM by Blue Flamingo

New label to Forte, and a fine start it is too! ZIYA ERTEKIN, alias BLUE FLAMINGO"I barter in dreams". Thats what I, at times, answer when people ask me what I do for a living. I could, of course, tell them that I occupy myself with collecting 78 rpm records and how I play them to audiences as a DJ who goes by the name of Blue Flamingo. In a world increasingly focused on comfort, collecting 78 rpm records is an exercise in immeasurable preparedness to make an effort in exchange for a wonderful experience. I hope that with this cd I can communicate all of this to you, dear listener.1. Oriental Nitty Gritty (1930s Oriental Flavoured Jazz-Exotica)In this discipline, we separate the wheat from thec haff when concerning imagination: Exotica!Although this genre that is, to be frank, no genre at all, knows many facets and influences, I will restrain myself in this mix, and deal mainly with an obscurity in jazz, the one with oriental influences.2. The Spanish Tinge & the French Connection(1930s 1940s Spanish & French Carribbean)You hear one of my great heroes, the renowned jazz pioneer from New Orleans, Jelly Roll Morton,at the beginning of the mix saying: Maybe you noticed the Spanish tinge in this tune. This got so much to do with the typical jazz idea: If one is notable to put these tinges of Spanish and West indies tunes into their music they will never be able to get the right seasoning for Jazz.3. Ritmo & Blues (1950s Mambo & Rhumba Flavoured Rhythm & Blues)I love things that are born in de tension of contrasts. It forces the maker to leave the things healready knows behind and to look for new solutions. It embraces a certain risk. It brings usboth beauty and agony, Sometimes it reaches deep and intense, sometimes its light and amusing, though never boring. Garon, whats the final dish on our musical menu? Rhythm ed with el ritmo Cubano. Yummy!Papa loved mambo; mama loved mambo! And, asyou will hear in this mix, even the rhythm & blues scene fell under the its charm.23 tracks in total; fans of old music, Revenant Records, Old Hat, and a good time!! Will love this.
