What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Phil feeling unmoved.

Also on Domino is a new 7" by indie tabloid darlings The Kills. 'The Last Day of Magic' is 7" only and the only constructive thing about this I can muster up is that I quite like the look of the cake on the sleeve. I do like a bit of cake me... The back of the sleeve features Jamie holding a gun to his face in various poses. I'm wondering if he has a licence for it. If anyone wants to grass him up to the fuzz then you should ring that emergency number you should all know (I personally think it's an emergency giving musicians guns). The reason why I've waffled is that I don't really like this though at the same time it could well be quite good. The jury is out.... though if the rozzers get him for unlawful possession of a firearm he's going down. Should musicians be allowed guns?? Look at all he hip hop dudes blowing each others face off. It's a crazy world out there.

What the label says:

2008 saw the return of one of rock’s most unique and enigmatic duos, The Kills, with their third album ‘Midnight Boom’. VV (Alison) and Hotel (Jamie) have long symbolised what draws people to rock ‘n’ roll - downright cool and sexy, and with songs that most other rock ‘n’ roll acts can only dream of making.    Their first album ‘Keep On Your Mean Side’ won widespread critical acclaim and gained them their ever passionate and devoted cool cult following, and second album ‘No Wow’ saw them return with an edgier, sharper sound that pushed rock ‘n’ roll boundaries.     The production on this third album features beats and studio smarts from Spank Rock’s producer Alex Epton aka Armani XXXchange, making a truly forward thinking, fresh new sound for the band.
‘Last Day Of Magic’ is by far one of the most intense tracks on the album and one picked up across the board in reviews as a definite lead track - a beautiful tale of destructive passion.   Available on limited edition 7” vinyl
