Melvins - Nude With Boots

Nude With Boots by Melvins

4...according to our on Wed 02 Jul, 2008.

I'm the cadet reporting in for Melvins duty while General Ant isn't looking.. I've even broken into his weapons cabinet to wear his tin Buzzo afro helmet while I'm on. As is half-expected with Ipecac, Nude With Boots is only available on CD. The Big Business boys (including Cody Willis from Neighbours) are still on board and initially there's no huge change from (A) Senile Animal, the first few tracks have got a very clean, almost Fucking Champs-y sound to them but as it goes on it starts to veer towards the experimental; probably a natural (re?) progression now the lineup's had time to bed in. The more straightforward stuff is very solid but a few tracks seriously hit the spot once it starts to branch out, 'Dies Iraea' is a cover of some medieval poem thing and swaps the all-out rock sound of the early tracks for Eastern-tinged riffing and distant sounding sludge, it's really quite ace. The last two tracks are well skill, dirgey and demented which is really my Melvins preference, plus the dual-drum setup sounds much better with the extra breathing space (I find it barely noticable on record most of the time). It's as hard to imagine fans being disappointed by this as it is any doubters being converted, it's really just The Melvins doing what they do. Can't say fairer than that!

Almost 25 years and over 25 albums since their inception, the legend that is The Melvins returns with the Big Business power duo once more for this sonic onslaught of wall-to-wall heavy rock.
After two years of solid touring, the now rejuvenated, stable line-up bring us 11 new songs ranking up with the best of their output - straight up no nonsense rock action like no-one but the Melvins has the balls or chops to get away with playing these days.
Nude With Boots was recorded in Hollywood in a couple of weeks give or take a day or two and the boys seem to be extremely happy with the outcome.
This is the second Melvins album to feature the Hydra Head Power Duo Big Business and is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2006’s hugely successful (A) Senile Animal:
- 5K’s IN KERRANG: "HOW CAN A BAND STILL SOUND THIS GOOD OVER 20 YEARS INTO THEIR CAREER? EASY, IT’S THE MELVINS."
- 4/5 IN UNCUT: "IF (A) SENILE ANIMAL WAS RELEASED UNDER THE NAME METALLICA IT WOULD BE HAILED AS ONE OF THE MOST STARTLING RETURNS TO FORM IN MODERN METAL."
The Fantomas Melvins Big Band DVD (Live In London 2006) to be released this Summer! Commentary features conversations and great stories with Buzz, Dale, Greg (Ipecac head), Robbie Frazier from William Morris and actor Danny DeVito!!

John Peel once said 'With a new Fall album, you're never sure what you're gonna get. It may not be what you want, but it's the Fall and it's all you need'.The same can be applied to Melvins... This is a real fookin grower ;)
