What we say about Found, by The Static Silence
This record left our Mingus feeling happy.
The Static Silence: Found (Distant Noise) Recalls the stately grandeur of of my recent faves Beach House, the ambient atmospherics of the recent shoegazing revival and the blue toned, sparkling productions of Robin Guthrie. Across seven tracks-started by one member, completed by another, there's what sound like synthetic drum programmes, tremelo and FX laded guitars. The addition of female vocals low in the mix bring a kind of mournful edge to proceedings on track three. Overall, it flits from shoe to navel in it's reflective approach. If you like the Cocteau Twins style of post-punk, pre-goth angst then you'll appreciate the hard to fathom dull glow. Kinda of enjoyable for miserablists. Limited to 100.
What the label says about Found, by The Static Silence:
the static silence formed in late 2002 when rachel (experimental aircraft, eau claire, monster movie) visited matt (air formation) for the first time in brighton, england. hove, actually. they never really thought too much about playing music together until near the end of her visit. matt showed rachel a song he wrote and she added an improptu guitar part as well as vocals to compliment what matt was singing and playing. it was a short 15 minute session of creation that is captured on a mini-disc somewhere. rachel loved matt's song so much that she encouraged him to send over 4-track tapes so she could transfer them, add to the songs, mix each track and send them back to matt. this was quite a task and rachel scrapped everything she transferred to computer and worked on in 2003 and 2004. in january of 2005 she bought an old reel-to-reel 8-track machine. although this limited what she could add, this method proved to maintain the original analog sound.
masstransfer magazine released the first and only song (lost) to be released at this point on a cd compilation that came with issue number six.
