Disrupt and Rootah share four tracks and two sides (one 'Space Invader side' and one 'Pac-Man side') on the Jahtarian Dubbers EP, it's the first I've heard of any of this lot and I'll deffoes be looking for more. Not too much in the way of vocals but it's got all the dubby stuff you'd expect, masses of echo, delay and a lovely line in big swooshy bits. The label graphics give a bit of a clue too with some nice old-school videogame sounds coming through pretty regularly. Listening to this is making me think of On-U Sound and it'd definitely be at home there quality-wise, I can't say much better than that.Run by Disrupt and Rootah, Jahtari is one of the best net labels operating today, a beacon of light freely sharing top quality releases with the masses in the plain aim of spreading good quality music. Their site receives an insane amount of hits and downloads and is not only home to some of the freshest music around (free or not), but also hosts a library of information on reggae, digital synthesis and computers. Finally out now is the first ever Jahtari physical release, a 12" containing three heavy tunes from the soon-come CD label compilation album plus an exclusive and new cut of Rootah's ‘Holy Mount’. Cut on Berlin’s famed D&M lathe, every groove is filled to the max with deadly basslines, smashing delays and infinte deepness waiting to be discovered in full detail. Blaze Dem’s opener ‘Roots Defender’ will smash any soundsystem with ease. With an ultra-deep bassline, a killer hook and crazy Swedish sampling madness, this tune is sure to shake any floor. Disrupt follows in his unmistakable style with ‘Kozure Okami’, paying tribute to old 70s Samurai movies and the Black Ark sound alike, with cutting-edge FX action, full force low-end niceness and a wicked synth solo. John Frum (aka Type's Julien Neto) is next with echo monster ‘January Dub’ featuring soundscapes beyond words layered over the special drum and bass vibe that only this delay navigator is able to create, topped off with a big melody line that will definitely follow you in your dreams. Rootah finishes this heaiest of heavy waxings with his deep destroyer ‘Holy Mount Part 2’. Tube tape echo machines are set a-flame over an extremely hypnotic mutation of the Drum Song riddim - watch out for your speakers!
