 This record left our BRIAN D feeling happy.
Bloody hell. Venetian Snares has finally returned to his true roots and made a great old-skool jungle record! 'Detrimentalist!' is refreshing, purely because he hasn't tried to turn his hand to dubstep but has instead attempted to outdo Remarc and all those other amen break chancers that say they invented jungle. (erm..... which they did, but this beanpole Canadian psycho doesn't want to acknowledge that hahaha!) Trying to review this record is nigh on impossible as there's just so much junglist scattershot mayhem involved in every millisecond of frantically inventive programming and when the manic beats aren't yanking your brain in half & forcing your ragga tied legs in different directions against your will then there's some hilariously well chosen sample to make you grin. This is probably his most joyous record to date after so many dark, frustrated albums of abstract horror-core and digital vomit, the tunes are here, it's a proper mad rave in a can & if you pop you'll just not want to stop as this man is one of the best programmers in the business. After Bogdan's brilliantly unhinged 'Alright!' make this 2008s house party wrecker, go on, you know you want to! Dbl LP/CD on Planet Mu.(Cd has tracks from the forthcoming 12", 'Miss Balaton'
