Hot on the heels of the Delia Derbyshire and co 'Electrosonic' album, Glo-Spot have unearthed and lovingly re-issued another gem from the catalogue of seminal library records label KPM. Ron Geesin's futuristic 19 track odyssey 'Electrosound' was originally issued in 1972 and has been fully remastered by the man himself. Pressed onto striking blue and white marbled vinyl and pressed up in an edition of 500 copies in gatefold sleeve. It includes extensive linear notes and a new cartoon illustration of Geesin drawn by his son adorning the front cover. I've been playing the Desmond Leslie 'Music Of The Future' LP a fair bit recently and this beauty fits perfectly into that sci-fi/ early electronic/ tape music style I'm growing fonder of by the day. On first listen I was immedietly taken by the tracks on here. A mix of chaotic music concrete, tape experiments and analogue/ modular synthesizer patching and twiddling. This is my first introduction to the artists work. His approach to sound design is incredibly inventive with strange and compelling industrial machine sounds, bleeps, malfunctioning music boxes and transforming frequencies. I mean I really think the 'Electrosonic' record on this label was great but for me this takes things to a whole new level in terms of variety, innovation and quality. The tracks are so dynamic your mind just struggles to imagine what this source material will have been used for in the context of television and radio. I guess that's the magic of library music... A whole world of sounds committed to vinyl to be used as a tool to soundtrack events and images, creating sounds that have never been heard before and applied to fictitious scenarios. A deeply compelling collection of little abstract nuggets from a true unsung (well maybe not entirely as he did pen the melodies and arrangement for half of Pink Floyd's classic 'Atom Heart Mother' LP) visionary of electronic and electroacoustic music. Essential for any vinyl collector not wanting to pay £60 and upwards for an original copy. A fantastic opportunity to own some timeless and still cutting edge sounds that otherwise would have perhaps faded into obscurity. Miss at your peril!
