I just knew I wanted to review the Mama Shamone single. 'Over' is the melting pot where every style of pop music from the 80's and early 90s is steamrollered into oblivion not unlike a big floppy disco juggernaut crashing into your face. Martin Rushent was indeed the maverick who propelled The Human League to stardom and he fills this bugger with a humongous wibbling party monster intensity referencing everything from Kim Wilde to Specials to 2 Unlimited. If a glitterball was ever a song then this is it. No wonder we keep getting hassled for it! Ltd 7" on GeneticMama Shamone and Martin Rushent (producer of Buzzcocks, Stranglers, Human League etc.) collided shortly after the London quartet were made Myspace band of the week. After a whirlwind year of shows (Bestival, Tales of the Jackalope, Fusion) and radio play on Xfm and Radio One, the band and the man have the EP to launch your festival season. Title track 'Over''s juggernaut rock riffs, and foot-stamping dance rhythms make a rousing theme song for the wildest live band in London. ' They've headlined Barcelona's Razzmatazz, supported Bloc Party and The Rakes and played some of the filthiest parties in Berlin, including White Trash, Rio and Club 103. They are also firmly associated with loved and feared underground club, Bastard Batty Bass, which they play with DJ Hannah Holland (Trailer Trash) and MC Chickaboo (Soul II Soul). Mama Shamone are a band that'll kick start any party.

Having heard this on white label this track captures what the band’s sensational live shows have in buckets. It rocks… big time. Great vocals from the extraordinarily-talented, charismatic singer Mama over a clever mix of dancey vibe and rock licks on top of a solid-as-a-really-solid-thing rhythm. It’s hard to compare as I don’t know of any other bands doing stuff this good at the moment. They should bring back Top of the Pops just for this single....according to Victoria Cook.
Mama Shamone take you in, shake you up and spit you out a new person. It's unlike anything else, quite simply, they are going to be huge news....according to mike.
Amazing sound.....sounds so different to what's in the charts today. This deserves prime time air-play!!
