What we say This record left our Ant feeling happy. You can always rely on Blackest Rainbow to provide you with all your experimental/drone/ outsider/ psyche needs. This week however we're treated to a right old doom fest courtesy of Quttinirpaaq. If you're into Nadja, Melvins, Grey Daturas, Sunn O))), or just sludge and doom in general then I'd recommend checking 'Dragged Through The Streets' out. Slow, heavy and primal rock. Be warned cos the second track has been mastered extremely loud and will have your speakers for breakfast. This one raises the bar adding electronics and layers of noise and feedback but ends before it really gets going. A fine interlude nonetheless. 'The Sea And The Birdman' has some monster chugging riffs and crashing drums. 'Down By The River' is a smashing metal track that wouldn't be out of place on the Neurot label. Lush hand printed and hand written sleeves. A damn fine CD this one. What the label says: Quttinirpaaq is multi instrumentalist Texan Matt Turner, and Dragged Through The Streets sounds to me like what last years weak ass Transformers movie should have looked like... Doom ridden feedback and thundering percussion, weirdo electronics with walls of harsh feedback, screech and squelch lined crust invested sludge, bleak tribal drums with repetetive piano and metallic feedback shuffles, all across 6 tracks. Further releases will soon be seen on Ruralfaune, Reverb Worship, Epicene ESR and more!

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
