Rating: ecstatic This record left our BRIAN D feeling ecstatic.

When under pressure all I can do to stop myself hurling everything at Phil's head & running away in tears is talk bollocks. I'd like to review the new Johnny Foreigner album with precision, clarity & passion but all I can do is think of a muscular, cape sporting Los Campesinos biting J Mascis' ankles and laughing at the fact he's turned into a bizarre old grey haired witch with Jonathan King specs. Kill yr Idols. That's what "der yoof" said. I don't think the US underground 15-20 years ago could be prepared for the sheer scale of influence it's had on Britain's youngsters over the years. The first & second waves came, entertained & went in the 90's but there is one forgotten band that are probably the most dynamically consequential on this Brum based 3 strong clan (possibly unbeknownst even to them!) and that's off-kilter Scots indie punkers Uresei Yatsura who were like a fuzzed up bomb of sugary melodies & exuberant feedback but were lumbered with an awkward moniker & unruly ginger hair so were obviously doomed. So it's up to the new breed a decade later to make up the slack by producing this brilliant, hook-laden, whirlwind-inducing alt-pop contained on 'Waited Up Till it Was Light', the singularly most energetic and joy filled indie album i've heard all year. it's music that just bounces off itself, such is the sheer momentum and spirit, harmonies crashing & colliding all over the shop, neat tempo changes & some of the TIGHTEST playing i've heard in some time! Can't believe they've been together barely 18 months. Incredible stuff! It's 10 times more hyper, improbably fast & detailed than i'm used to for I suspect these boys & girls are plugged into the mains, obviously. I do so hope this band never grow out of shorts. Johnny Foreigner’s intense touring schedule and scintillating debut EP have built the band into one of the years hottest new artists. With another single preceding the album, further high profile dates to come and festival slots, the album is poised to become one of the most talked about records of the year.
Johnny Foreigner have recently completed tours including supports with Operator Please, Idlewild, Los Campesinos, Young Knives, The Subways, Blood Red Shoes and an NME Awards Show.
They are main support on the forthcoming Forward Russia tour before joining the Mae Shi for the Drowned In Sound sponsored run of dates, followed by a headline tour for The Fly magazine. The band are in the process of confirming all major festival appearances – with three shows at The Great Escape already booked before they hit the UK’s festival circuit. Previous single ‘Our Bipolar Friends’ was Zane Lowe Fresh Meat winner (28/01/08) and received subsequent support on the show before and after the release.
They played the much sought after ASCAP showcase at SXSW 2008 where they secured American and Canadian deal, Japanese and European releases; including an appearance at Japans prestigious Summer Sonic Festival.
Debut EP ‘Arcs Across The City’ received an incredible response in the British press and promptly sold out oit’s initial run of 1000 Limited Pop Up CD’s. It has since been sold out and re-pressed 3 times, and received plaudits such as Kerrang!’s Album of the week, The Fly’s Single of the Month and both Artrocker’s Single Of The Month and Album Of The Month.
