What we say

Rating: happy This record left our BRIAN D feeling happy.

Well, I've got this Yankee dubstep compilation on Lo Dubs called Analog Clash which is pretty damned smart. It's one of those where the individual import 12"s didn't have too much impact on us when played on their own in this hectic bastard of an office but jesus, 6Blocc is a master when it comes to mixing lo-end bass farts & eerie slowed down junglist beats, the sound of the artists on here is pretty urban & sinister and these dubs are rock hard, bristling with tension & pent up aggression If yr a fan of the harder end of grime/dubstep like Vex'd & Milanese, I reckon you'll proper dig the likes of South3rn, Starkey, DZ, Cardopusher & Pacheko & 6Blocc himself. A true talent is this man, this mix is consistently excellent, innovative & entertaining. The odd cheeky daft sample is shoehorned between some tasty, diverse beats & rhythms. Also, there's a bonus CD with ALL the 12"s to date included!!! NOYSE! on Lo Dubs

What the label says:

In their brief one year existence, Lo Dubs have arguably established themselves as the leading imprint of the USA’s emerging dubstep community, with a series of 12”s that have proved as consistent in their stylish presentation as they have in their status as “must-bag” releases for forward-thinking basshead selectors everywhere. Echoing Kode9’s informal manifesto to “give dubstep that which it thinks it is not”, Lo Dubs have already deliverered a volley of low-end weaponry which places class firmly in front of fashion, displaying a keen ear for that rare blend of the populist and the adventurous, plus a dynamic approach to runnin’ tings. Now  Lo Dubs present their first venture into CD,  ‘Analog Clash’, mixed in continous DJ format by LA’s 6Blocc, surely destined to become the Rosetta stone of the dubstep sound emanating from all regions of the Americas. From Toronto by way of DZ, Bombaman, XI, and the doom metal group Nadja (exclusively remixed by Vex’d), to Venezuela via Pachecko and Cardopusher, and back to the middle with Philadelphia’s own Starkey and the mighty South3rn of Texas, all the earth encompassing the continent is covered in a release that may very well be the first of it’s kind to represent the movement on the left side of the Atlantic. As a mix, 6Blocc has demonstrated once again his ability to thrill, compiling a one-hour-plus set that weaves through Lo Dubs’ diverse list of releases, in addition to a host of unheard recordings, many of which will be featured on 12”s in their own right in the coming months, thus continuing the cross pollination process. 6Blocc has just returned to LA from blazing a 30 date trail throughout Europe, playing many of these tracks on dubplate to huge crowd response. As a limited bonus, a second disc is included, containing all sides from every Lo Dubs vinyl release to date, in full CD audio format, mastered to perfection. As Lo Dubs is run from the back office of Portland (Oregon)’s Anthem Records store, they frown on digital distribution (hence ‘Analog Clash’), and this will be the only way any Lo Dubs releases will be available in such a high quality digital format

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'if you blow dry water will it go frizzy?'
