What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Brett feeling happy.

Mechanical Bride's name reminds me of that scary Marcel Duchamp thing done in two panes of glass, that's some of my favourite shit, yo. 'The Black Skeleton Sea' comes packaged deluxe style in a gatefold sleeve housing two of those round black things that are slightly larger in diameter than the average willy. Three tracks to be had which is something you don't normally get with willies, have you ever tried to put a stylus on one of those things? Messy. The lead track is a sweet little lullaby-like thing with lovely cooed vocals and a dead relaxing xylophone/glockenspiel arpeggio thing going round and round, sending you off to the land of Nod. The other tracks are nice too, we're struggling to come up with a meaningful comparison here but it's very quiet and delicate sounding, I imagine this'd go down a treat at those 'morning after' times. It's quite comforting.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'I can't believe you just said that'
