What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Brian thinks The Whigs are from Leeds cos the cover of the sleeve has some oldee pictures of Leeds on (Well 70's). Maybe he's right? We're not priveee to such information. Their debut 7" has landed here and it's called 'Like A Vibration'. The production on this record is great... it's really loud and full of beans. The guitars and drums sound good. In fact it all sounds good though the affected (slightly rock) vocals ruin it ever so slightly for me. Still as far as energetic indie rock singles go this debut is pretty strong and both Brian and me (extremely hard to please) are reasonably impressed...

What the label says:

The Whigs are:
·    Parker Gispert — lead vocals, guitar and keyboard

·    Julian Dorio — drums

·    Tim Deaux — bass, backing vocals

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
