Nothing is Lost' is the fourth album by the melancholic Brighton based duo Things in Herds. For the most part the songs are written by Pete Lush and Miss Ping creates the peculiar images. They are far-flung members of the Fife based 'Fence Collective', and their 2005 electro-folk-pop album 'Everything Has to End Somewhere' was released on King Creosote's Fence Records label. With this latest album the pair have shifted toward a more stripped down, organic direction, abandoning much of the synths and electronics that characterised previous releases, a move that reflects the more sombre mood of these songs. The album was initially released as a short hand-made CDR run through their website, which quickly sold out. They have recorded each of their albums entirely at home with each first receiving a similar online mail order release before being licensed to other labels worldwide. 2002's 'I Can Dancing and Walking' was later released across Europe, the USA and even Malaysia. This time they have decided to take on the full release of the CD with their own Gfolk label. "Delivered with cut-glass precision, the male and female harmonies of Once Were yield an opening moment of lip-quivering beauty. Nothing is Lost boasts one of those sweet, slight choruses that, were it sung a shade more assertively by a Paolo Nutini type, would become a monster hit. But, of course, if a Paolo Nutini type sang it, it wouldn't glow with the heartrendingly exquisite intimacy that makes a Things in Herds album so cherishable. It is, to be crude about it, a cycle of misfortune which can only be broken if you buy this wonderful record."
