What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Brian feeling happy.

Johnny Foreigner have that mid period Pavement thing down down to a tee with angular guitars, flailing drums, loose playful bass and colliding M/F vocals, schizo tempo changes all over the shop. Quiet LOUD quiet, it's all been done lots before but these new generation boys & girls do it just as well as anyone from the UK has ever done. I could reference young munchkins Los Campesinos and older hands such as Help She Can't Swim, Seafood but it's a bit pointless as this style of rumbling agitated indie is in rude health, evergreen as long as bands throw this amount of freewheeling energy & passion at it. Great sleeve, proper indie with cartoon ghosts all over the place. It's a 3 trk 7" slab of wax is this called 'Eyes Wide Terrified' with 2 extra tracks on the flip I ain't got time to check but granted, there'll be no duffers with this lot cause they're on the up, up & away! A pleasure!

What the label says:

The summer of 2008 looks set to be the time when Johnny Foreigner translate underground press and hype into real mainstream success. ‘Eyes Wide Terrified’, the second track to be taken from their forthcoming debut album, is a guitar driven, hooky alt pop classic that should further whet appetites for their long player.  Johnny Foreigner have recently completed tours supporting  including supports with Operator Please, Idlewild, Los Campesinos, Young Knives, The Subways and Blood Red Shoes, plus an NME Awards Show.
The band are main support on the forthcoming Forward Russia tour before joining The Mae Shi for a Drowned in Sound sponsored run of dates

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
