Pivot - In The Blood

In The Blood by Pivot

Was surprised to find Warp had sneaked another record out without telling me first. For I am the controller and I want to be informed of all developments within this obscure musical sphere. Or maybe I'm just scarred/scared by the Jamie Lidell record. Whatever ....Pivot is Australian and 'In the Blood' is his debut 12" for Sheffield's top techno teddy boys. Lead track is a strange mash of discordant old skool drum breaks, moody synths & squalling guitars that is utterly out of step. I'm sure it's like Capitol K's less flooring moments. 'Didn't I Furious' is a bit more kicking, a dirty funky break with some dark synth action & more deconstructed, disorientating guitar sample-wankery. Like Donna Summer on 16 RPM. Rustie remixes the lead track with lots of grime claps & 8 bit bloopery to some effect (if yr mullered on a Shoreditch dancefloor) I can't listen to the Clark mix incase it's brilliant and i'm forced to buy this fat piece of baffling fad rutting wax. I've decided Rustie is a slowed down version of Dan's housemate in Nathan Barley, Ya know, Noel Fielding's speedfreak DJ character who torments all with his cyberjungle 8-bitfreakbraks day & night. I feel really old, I really do. Get the Lee Perry/Moody Boys 12" instead. Now that is fabulous!

Pivot are an awe-inspiring juggernaut of rhythmic, wordless melodies – not quite post-rock, not just electronica.

This is their debut UK release, having built up a sizable fanbase in their native Australia.   They’ve previously toured with Battles, Fourtet and Deerhoof.    This 12” of entirely new material also features two remixes from Rustie and Warp labelmate Clark.
The band are relentlessly touring in the six week run up to release and throughout the Summer and Autumn, having relocated to the UK.
The artwork is designed by legendary painter Michel Granger, who is also responsible for some of the most memorable Jean Michel-Jarre cover art.   This release will be backed by an incredible online viral video directed by Alex Smith (Coldplay, Manics, Kylie).
