El Perro Del Mar - From The Valley to The Stars

El Perro Del Mar: From The Valley To The Stars (Memphis Industries) I don't know anything at all about this outfit, or is it just one person. On the sleeve one Sarah Assbring is credited with the songs so let's assume it's a solo project. With a name like Assbring our man at the helm would-or should I say will-have a field day with his smutty little brain. I for one will not indulge in such nonsense. From the off I've identified a high pitch almost falsetto tone to her vocalisations, flutes (or recorder I'm not sure), guitar strum-along and the odd horn blast. It sounds rather twee and fey, the one fingered keyboard lines and the short sharp bursts of pure, almost sixties style pop brings to mind a polished sort of Sarah records. What is it with former dance labels morphing into pseudo indie labels: is it a fashion thing as a generation of ravers children take hold of the musical reins...oh I dunno, I'm quite tempted to have a look at the press stuff but i'm sure it'll just put me off. Sounds like a pure, harmless exercise in mainstream bound pop.

A step on from the critically adored debut album ‘From The Valley To The Stars’ is gaining huge exposure through blogs, webzines and word of mouth.   The first single is already receiving support from Radio 2 – Radcliffe & Maconie (Pick ‘N’ Mix single of the week conten er),  6 Music Shaun Keaveny & Gideon Coe & XFM (John Kennedy)
