Jennifer Gentle are a bunch of Italian guys with a huge Syd Barrett fixation and here's a pretty cool 4 track CD only release on Heron Records. It's name is 'Evanescent Land' if you feel the need to label things and the lead track (She's Alright) could have fallen off the back of the new Animal Collective album. It's completely tapped mental skewed pop music which is totally off kilter but I can imagine a lot of different folks falling for it despite the fact it's 'wierd' just cos it's so catchy. The rest of the Ep is along their more Barrett esque tunes and I'd have to say it's rather good. Well worth checking out! What the label says: She’s Alright My Memories Book Madhouse Wondermarsh Italian psychedelic legends Jennifer Gentle are the brainchild of Marco Fasolo, a former ice cream salesman from the provincial northern town of Padova. Taking their name from a track on the first Pink Floyd album, since their formation in 1999 the band have gradually built up a global following for their truly unique music. NME described ‘The Midnight Room’ as “excitingly unhinged”, but this new EP takes things even further: it’s creepy, it’s catchy and it’s sure to be like nothing you’ve ever heard before. The CD single is limited to 1000 copies.

About the humble CD single:

Another digital format and even though they can hold 80 minutes of information (like a CD album would) record companies only fill up a small portion of the disc. Sometimes only 1 or 2 tracks on there totalling 5 minutes or so. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a plate of food with 2 green beans on and wondering where the rest of your meal is. Sometimes they're lovingly packaged though and when the music is good then you're into a winner. Also you get videos on there sometimes which you can watch on your computer. That is excellent.
