What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

It seems like ages since I heard anything by Errors. In between eating deep fried cream eggs this Glaswegian bunch are back on the case with a 7" called 'Toes' which precedes the forthcoming debut LP for Rock Action. I seem to remember the last 7" was a bit more electronic sounding. There's a bit of a kraut rock thing happening in the repetition and they get a bit of a groove going as the track builds from gentle guitar into a stomping thing that makes me think of a Mogwai dancing with Battles with electronics. The track shifts around a fair bit and all. It doesn't blow me away but it's worth a punt.

What the label says:

Errors and Rock Action are delighted to announce the first single taken from Errors’ eagerly anticipated debut album ’It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever’.
Entitled ’Toes’ and backed with a brand new recording ’Period Drama’ the record is the Glasgow band’s first recorded output since last year’s limited edition single Salut! France. Having spent most of 2007 in studios in and around Glasgow their short break supporting Underworld on their UK tour in October gave the band an opportunity to give live debuts to a number of the new track, with ’Toes’ being identified early as a pure winner.
Whilst retaining the elements of new-wave and acid-house that marked their early ’Hans Herman’ 7" and EP ’How Clean Is Your Acid House?’ this new material represents a natural progression and evolution in Errors’ sound that so far has seen the band touted as natural successors to the mantle currently held by the likes of Battles, Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
