Darsombra is the solo, experimental outing of Baltimore’s Brian Daniloski (Meatjack, Trephine & SUCKPiG). Eternal Jewel, his second full-length album, is a mix of improvised and structured recordings primarily composed on the baritone guitar. The five tracks, ranging in length from 3 to 18 minutes, are best described as equal parts doom, psychedelic experimentation and 20th Century composition. From powerful and doom-drenched sections to minimal and shimmering to aggressive rhythms that sound like a pounding string section, Eternal Jewel is some of the strongest material yet from darsombra. The packaging for this release features letter-pressed metallic silver ink on thick black gatefold sleeve (printed by Portland’s Stumptown Printers.) The two inner pockets contain the disc on one side and two new stunning art pieces from artist/package designer Stephen Kasner (Sunn, Khlyst, Integrity) on the opposite side. darsombra has released the full-length CD “ecdysis” (At A Loss Recordings, 2006), the limited edition 3" CDr “deliriums & death” (Public Guilt, 2007) and was featured on the 3 CD, 55 artist experimental box set “untitled” (Epicene Sound/Underadar/Public Guilt, 2007) alongside Thurston Moore, Dead Machines, Burning Star Core, etc. darsombra's unique blend of experimentation, melody and doom-laden heaviness allows him to comfortably fit on a wide variety of bills, from experimental to psych to metal to indie. Through a steady stream of touring darsombra has shared the bill with Mastodon, High on Fire, The Thrones, Growing, Othrelm, Torche, Don Caballero, Today is the Day, Jucifer, Stinking Lizaveta, Prurient, Infidel? Castro!, Destructo Swarmbots, Ostinato, Misery Index, Skeleton Key, Dysrhythmia, Floor, Rwake, Ahleuchatistas, Minsk, Black Cobra, Carlos Giffoni, Mouth of the Architect and many others. darsombra was also featured at the Doom or Be Doomed Festival (Baltimore, MD, 2007) and the 804noise Festival (Richmond, VA, 2006). "darsombra sounds like a more actualized micro-metal experiment than the likes of droney-come-latelies SunnO))) and Growing...what separates darsombra from the current crop of Earthshakers is the way Daniloski moves the EQ from bass to treble without compromising his vision. darsombra balances both blacks and whites for the greys
