What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

MV & EE (Matt Valentine and Erika Elder) seem to be on fire at the moment (well not literally as I imagine playing super stoned sounding music whilst aflame would be difficult to say the least) with a 180g vinyl issue of their limited to 50 copies CDr and cassette 'Ragas Of The Culvert' that you missed when you blinked. Fortunately Three Lobed save the day and have presented it in a grand heavy duty sleeve complete with CD 'Total Loss Songs' which features the Golden Road. The Ragas record as the name suggests is very classical Indian sounding with a heavy psych twist. Real moody stuff that's making our Brian want to eat a "cannabis curry". If you enjoyed the 'Uranian Ray' album then you should dig this. Cool stuff.

What the label says:

"Ragas of the Culvert," previously self-released as a CD-R in an edition of less than 50 copies as well as a quickly sold out cassette on Fuck It Tapes, is a glorious revisiting of the lunar raga style that created so much of MV+EE's past.  This meditative and purely instrumental six track voyage is guaranteed to transport you to distant worlds. All paid pre-orders for "Ragas of the Culvert" will also receive an as-of-yet-untitled bonus CD (TLR-063) featuring some newly recorded previously unreleased jams.  As a bit of a departure from our previously pre-order "bonus" discs, this particular one will contain some minimal artwork and not simply be in a white paper envelope. "Ragas of the Culvert" will be from an edition of around 750 copies pressed on 180g RTI vinyl.  The record will be housed within "old style" Stoughton LP sleeves bearing a new design by both Matt and Erika.

About the humble LP:

The LP is the daddy of formats. 12" inches of sheer joy. The LP adds to the glory of the 12" record as it can be played at a slower speed (33rpm instead of the usual 45rpm for singles), consequently more musical joy can be had. Played on a decent deck the sound of an LP is about a million times better than any other format. They look fantastic...... a nice gatefold sleeve with a information rich inner sleeve will keep you entertained for hours even before your stylus has chance to make eye contact with it's 12" prey. An essential part of musical heritage which will never be forgotten. It still does play at a multitude of speeds but as it's recorded to be played slower they normally sound ridiculous sped up. Though double albums can make up for this slight inadequacy by ramming more tunes into your ears for your money. Utterly essential.
