Crisis - The Consequences

The Consequences by Crisis

4...according to our on Fri 25 Apr, 2008.

And onto Crisis with a single called 'Consequences'. This is a supergroup of sorts featuring that fat squirrel eating bird from the Gossip.... woh.... Hang fire there. This is a charity record, be nice. OK here's a supergroup of sorts featuring Beth Ditto, Paul (I Am Satan) Weller, The Enemy, Supergrass, Coxon, Ed Harcourt and loads more people you either love or hate. It's like band aid but for the homeless folks of our country and all cash gathered from the release will presumerably go to housing some of the nations homeless once all the coke dealers have been sorted out. Undoubtedly an admirable cause... On 7" and picture disc. It's not a bad tune either though it does feature Weller which bothers me.

‘Consequences’ features contributions from over a dozen rockstars including Beth Ditto, Paul Weller, The Enemy and Supergrass.

All proceeds from the sale of this track go to Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people. Visit crisis.org.uk for full details.

Inspired by the parlour game ‘consequences’, in which participants write a story or draw a figure without seeing each other’s input, each part of the song – drums, bass, guitar, vocals, etc – was recorded by artists unaware of what had been laid down before.

Produced by Paul Epworth, the track was built layer by layer to create a bombastic Phil Spector-esque Wall of Sound. With driving guitars from The Enemy, a Beach Boys bassline from Andy Rourke (The Smiths), vocals from Weller and Ditto, thumping beats from Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey, and a guitar-bending solo from Graham Coxon, the track is a fusion of Motown and indie rock.

- Vocals – Beth Ditto, Paul Weller, Tahita Bulmer (New Young Pony Club), Pearl Lowe
- Guitar – Paul Weller, Graham Coxon, Tom Clarke (The Enemy), Drew McConnell (Babyshambles)
- Bass – Andy Rourke (Smiths), Andy Hopkins (The Enemy), Gaz Coombes (Supergrass), Andy Spence (New Young Pony Club)
- Drums – Danny Goffey (Supergrass), Liam Watts (The Enemy), Sarah Jones (New Young Pony Club)
- Piano – Ed Harcourt
- Saxophone – Pete Warem (Acoustic Ladyland)
- Percussion – Jamie Morrison (The Noisettes)

Three of Crisis’ own homeless members also feature on the track – playing guitars and piano – after successfully auditioning in an X-factor style competition overseen by Crisis officials.
