Loving this new Pedro CD on Mush. 'You, Me & Everyone' is a right twinkling, widescreen suite stacked with banging hip hop beats, pinging electronic flourishes, widescreen cinematic effects & excitable jazz horns. It's all tied up in a crisp, fresh bag of spicy funk sauce. The overall vibe is quite soundtracky & wild, pretty freeform but very lively & driving. I get a feeling from this which poor old Caribou, even at his most inventive, never quite musters. It's more like classic old school Four Tet writing a hip, soulfood soundtrack to a psychedelic exploitation movie with David Holmes after a load of tequila & peyote, there's not a sound or a mood wasted in it's kaleidoscopic execution. The drums are just crackers - really warm & full sounding, the programming beautifully involving, (some real deep electronic moods are intermittently explored here, from Riley/Ayler -esque hypnosis to moving Aphex style synthlines) and the whole thing comes off like a gallop through open fields on a summer morning, really spirited, adventurous & life affirming. This Derbyshire prodigy has been relatively quiet of late so to be treated to this delightful prog-flecked journey of zinging future sound is a real treat. All in all the sweetest thing I've heard on Mush in many a moon. If you're a fan of Manitoba's 'Up in Flames' then you'll probably bin it after hearing this. It's all you'll need bar a hammock and a chilled martini this summer!Fresh off the triumph of Mush’s 2006 re-release of his self-titled debut (where he took the 2003 Melodic version back to the studio for a sonic overhaul), London’s mighty Pedro returns with You, Me & Everyone. While comparisons to artists like Four Tet and Minotaur Shock have been natural on his past releases, Pedro approaches this latest set of compositions in a way that continues to establish his unique take on folk and jazz based electronica. Free-jazz horn blasts ring out with new vigor, drums hit a bit harder, and Pedro continues to forge new elements into his song craft, even raising the ghosts of Liquid Liquid and A Certain Ratio on a track or two. Me, You & Everyone will surely be the album that secures Pedro a position among the game’s elite. Remixes for Radiohead and Folas coming out soon and in the NME’s future top 50 people!!
