What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Oppenheimer release a new 7" on Fantastic Plastic called 'Look Up'. Their album came out a while back on Smalltown America but Fantastic Plastic picked it up and if you ignored the reissue and you're not sure then maybe this 7" is a fun place to start. Hugely energetic indie rock which reminds me Ash when Charlotte Hatherley was involved. Well limited this one apparently 'n all...

What the label says:

‘Look Up’ / ‘The Never Never’ is a double A-side taken from Oppenheimer’s forthcoming new album.   ‘The Never Never’ features guest vocalist Matt Caughtran from US band The Bronx.
Oppenheimer’s music was recently featured on US comedy dramas ‘Ugly Betty’ and ‘Gossip Girl’.   The band have recently shared stages with names like Tilly and The Wall, Architecture In Helsinki, Regina Spektor, Hot Chip and supported They Might Be Giants on a giant 50 date stateside tour.
“Like a fizzing flying saucer scanning Planet Haribo” – NME. "A sumptuous synth-pop experience, fantastic fuzzy noise"  - Rocksound. "Irresistibly beautiful melodies”  - The Sun (4/5). "This is pop music at its most sublime, the soundtrack to a neon fantasy world where everything is shiny, it's gorgeous, gorgeous music that has universal appeal”  - Music OMH. "Oppenheimer songs have the feel of summers gone by, of skinny-dips and moonlight gallivants and sprinkler jumps and first crushes" – Alternative Ulster. “Pop disco for electro punks” – Drowned In Sound.
Available as limited edition (500 copies only) white vinyl 7” in numbered sleeves.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
