Joshua Burkett - Where's My Hat

Where's My Hat by Joshua Burkett

4...according to our on Wed 09 Apr, 2008.

Next up is Joshua Burkett with 'Where's My Hat?'. Something I often find myself saying in the cold months (being bald you need some warmth on your head to keep the heat in, something you hairy fuckers wouldn't have a clue about). Initially I thought it was shit but now I like it cos I don't have to look in the mirror each day. I automatically know I'm gonna look clueless. Enough already. After the opening track which is some lightly plucked acoustic guitar and a casio keyboard set on bagpipes it lurches into more singer songwriter territory. Something I'm reasonably familiar with these days. This is very gentle and introspective and I reckon if you like Jose Gonzalez but find his voice a bit too weird then you might like this guy. It's a bit more 'out there' at times but it's a pleasing 40 minutes or so. Some tracks are just instrumental and a few have vocals.....It probably won't challenge you but you will want to hear it again and again.... Presuming you're not just into gabba in which case what on earth are you reading this for you big freak?

digital version of red records #1... a lucky few got to hear this little gem as the tiny self released cdr edition, but here's the real deal. an absolutely lovely album and surely joshua's finest dose yet. oozing with a perfectly warm lo-fi bedroom glow, and full of joshua's most direct & achingly melancholy song forms. totally hitting a whole new level of intimate vibrations, full of fragile hushed vocals, gentle acoustic guitar plucking, somber dirges, and electronic bagpipe mantras. beautifully formed lyrics step up the forefront as a rare treat, and the effect is just as stunning as it is simple. we just can't get enough of this one. the kind of record you’ll want to spin again & again to soothe a busy mind... truly psychedelic folk music for late night soul searching... sweet custom art paper mini lp style gatefold covers with full color art to match the lp version. woven japanese inner sleeves. edition of 1000.
