The Night Marchers are the latest rip-roaring incarnation from John Reis, the finger shredding axeman from some frankly great bands, Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu & Hot Snakes. This man is king of rock alongside Josh Homme in my heart but that's because they know you don't need long hair to party with the devil. 'See You in Magic' has all the foot stomping Reis hallmarks, some spiraling, compulsive fretwork's, that slurred psychobilly snarl & some really good tunes on the whole. It's like a distillation of mid period RFTC & late Hot Snakes. That spine tingling guitar style he's got just makes the blood course through my veins. The drums are mainly great, rolling & compulsive. This is where ricocheting underground indie rock meets more commercial overground yank punk and it largely wins hands down in the satisfying stakes. The slightly polished production doesn't mar proceedings bar a handful of mid album tracks and downtempo strummers which are more MTV appeasing plodders (he is getting on a bit though, bless him!) but for true fans of this man's work, there's certainly plenty of fresh meat to chew on here. That sounds like a porno doesn't it? Oh dear......LP/CD on Swami/Vagrant.‘The Night Marchers’ is the new band from John ‘Speedo’ Reis,
ex-frontman of Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes.
