OVERVIEW: ‘Backfire At The Disco’ sees The Wombats at their scuzzy, hi-octane pop best. Telling the tale of a disastrous date in which our hero’s misdemeanours land him with a slap in the face, the track buries its heartache beneath bouncing basslines and a chorus that will make you dizzy. It follows on from the band’s two previous Top 20 singles ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Division’ and ‘Moving To New York’. Formats include CD, 7” picture disc and coloured, numbered 7” vinyl, with the A-side of the latter being a recording of a particularly special performance of ‘Backfire At The Disco’ with the legendary Peter Hook on bass, performed at The JD Set at the Cluny, Newcastle. The other B-sides are the band’s unique version of Take That’s ‘Patience’ recorded live on Jo Whiley’s Radio 1 Live Lounge, and new track ‘Caravan In Wales’. The Wombats have proved themselves to be an unstoppable force in the past 12 months.
