Boris next. The promo CD we got wouldn't play. At all. Maybe our CD player isn't futuristic enough. Possibly we just aren't sexy enough here at the towers for these beautiful, slinky dark japanese psych-metal warriors. There's always a chance that they've trancended music altogether for some kind of cerebral headfuck where you access the music telepathically without the need for such unneccesary detritus such a the humble disc player?? We heard the 7" the other week & that was huge fun. This album is named 'Smile' is all sealed with a yellow sticker hence the total lack of info from this modest monkey. But I can glean a certain aura of fuzzy hyper stoner mantrastic guitar abuse emmanating from the case, all futuristic & menacing like only the best contemporary RAWK could be. If it's on Southern Lord, it's bound to be enetertaining. The longest review I ever did write for a record I've never heard! CD only (at the moment with possibly a vinyl to follow in a years time hahahaha!)Highly anticipated new album from Boris, set to be by far their biggest album to date.
lOn Smile, Boris’ brush paints deeply intense blistering psychedelia, mammoth hooks, innovative song-writing, and a reinvention of dark heaviness.
lIt features collaborative guests: Stephen O’ Malley (Sunn0))), KTL), and Michio Kurihara (Ghost, White Heaven, The Stars).
They are searching for sounds that are also an extension of life and the many experiences they have had in the two years that have passed since the release of Pink. In their quest Boris are drawing upon unconventional influences such as: obscure Hair Metal, Japanese cartoon songs, and ’80s Japanese pop singers to help shape the bands new
directions.
They are unafraid to embrace different sounds that are definitely not hip or cool within the context of accepted Rock, Noise, or Drone music. These bold moves are really nothing new from the band that basically changes with every release with a conscious effort to not repeat what they have done in the past. Smile is a new sound which
represents everything that is RIGHT NOW. Boris hope "this is going to be a new experience for everyone beyond ’music’.
Press response is immensely positive and huge! This album and the band will be featured in every publication
possible.
Beautiful and intricate packaging that the band has come to be known for.
