Works is the debut offering of 26 year old London based producer Guy Gelem. Intricate guitar work beautifully complimented by long, gentle cello strokes placed upon simple electronic beats provide the basis for the album. It's a simple basis but it works so well. The result is a ultra melodic and haunting piece of work. Hints of Fridge and Tortoise surface now and again, but in no way does it taint the originality of this album. There are also touches of Eastern European folk which can be found on the wonderful track 'Village'. Guy's minimlastic approach is refreshing to say the least, and the space that it provides is a welcome and soothing relief from the claustrophobia of many of today's electronic releases. With it's nine tracks, the album clocks in at just over half an hour which undoubtedly leaves you wanting more.
