What the label says about The Midnight Organ Fight, by Frightened Rabbit:
An unconventional three-piece with a defined personality, and a gift
for being able to nail a near perfect pop song, Frightened Rabbit
convey candid tales of ordinary folk with a wry, acerbic wit via an
eloquent, emotive, modern garage-pop aesthetic.
Recorded by Peter
Katis (Mercury Rev, Interpol) over the space of two weeks, and mixed
over the ensuing fortnight, ‘Midnight Organ Fight’ was conceived and
realised in a much shorter time span than its predecessor, with the
intention of creating a more coherent, ‘pop’ sounding album.
An
incredibly accomplished live outfit, having supported the likes of We
Are Scientists and Idlewild already, their performances at times recall
the ragged, muscular energy of emo/punk three pieces such as early
Sebadoh, though Frightened Rabbit’s oeuvre nevertheless harbours a far
more universal agenda.
Lyrically ranging from incisive social
commentary to lucid, humorous explorations of interpersonal
relationships, Scott’s songs are essentially folk tinged pop with more
fervent ambitions. Not dissimilar in tone and scope to alternative pop
peers such as Belle and Sebastian, Frightened Rabbit also have an
anthemic knack that could see them talked of in the same breath as
fellow Scots Snow Patrol.
Frightened Rabbit are already building up
a head of steam at press (national and web) and radio thanks to the
acclaimed ‘Sing The Greys’ LP, and surrounding singles. Coming just
months after the bands acclaimed debut LP, this album (and the
surrounding singles and tourdates) will mark the second phase in a
campaign that should see Frightened Rabbit’s profile continue to rise,
with more releases and touring to come well into 2008.
