What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

The Pete & The Pirates new 7" is in. It's just arrived about an hour ago in fact. It's that hot off the press. It's called 'She Doesn't Belong To Me' and it's in a nice picture sleeve all numbered of 1000 copies. I kind of like this band.... in fact I'm pretty much the only one here who does though I think Brian likes the odd tune. This is one of their tunes which doesn't sound like Franz Ferdinand. It's just great indie guitar pop music which is reasonably short so it doesn't outstay it's welcome. Nice jangly guitars and the song builds up in energy to the end where it ends up being all anthemic and it just stops dead. Just like that. Short songs rule...

What the label says:

After the across the board critical acclaim their debut album Little Death received upon it’s release in February, Pete and the Pirates return with one of the LP’s highlights, She Doesn’t Belong To Me.Clocking in at under two minutes long, She Doesn’t Belong To Me is like a slice of classic pop from the golden age of Spector and Telstar, but as re-imagined by five, wide-eyed romantics from suburban England in 2008. Little Death, the debut album is out now.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
