In 2008, twenty to twenty five years after the songs were originally recorded, Domino are to reissue The Triffids’ ‘The Black Swan’ and ‘Treeless Plain’ albums, along with an album called ‘Beautiful Waste And Other Songs’, which comprises a series of recordings the band made between 1983 and 1985 which didn’t quite make it to full length album.
·These releases continue The Triffids’ reissue programme Domino started in Summer 2006 with the reissue of the band’s classic ‘Born Sandy Devotional’ album, and which has also seen the likes of ‘Calenture’ and ‘In The Pines’ remastered and released as deluxe CDs with additional music and sleeve notes.
·Beginning with the twisted commercial pop sound of the ‘Raining Pleasure’ mini album, proceeding to the alt country when the genre was but a twinkle of Lawson Square Infirmary, on through the fiery psych rock masterpiece of ‘Field Of Glass’, to the double A side smash hit (except it was never released) ‘Dear Miss Lonely Hearts’ / ‘Native Bride’ and ending with the title track in all its string and horn drenched glory, this collection rolls out song after song that most writers and bands would cut off an appendage for. It’s amazing to think that all of these masterful explorations of the song and how it should be done were, ultimately, mere rest stops to catch breath for David McComb and The Triffids on the way to their acknowledged masterpiece of 1986, ‘Born Sandy Devotional’.
·All these mini-masterpieces have been remastered by Lachlan Carrick and Franc Tétaz at Moose Mastering in Melbourne and they all appear for the first time on CD, barring a couple of tracks that were included on retrospectives.
· CD including an extensive 24 page booklet featuring text by James Paterson.
