What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Mingus feeling happy.

Papercut and Wreckingball- S/T(Deserted Village) Two tracks of epic length meditative high end oscillations and cat killing frequencies from Northstation main man Steven Fanagan. The tones generated float in and out of view and are combined with mid range points and processed (environmental?) sound textures. All in all, an effective filmic sounding landscape littered with desolate, warm and at times dark and light contrasts moving throughout the deftly placed scenes of ambient hush, cushioned atmospherics and dramatic swells. If you like Machinefabriek and contemporary electronica/sound-art of the brow scratching variety then this is yours.

About the humble CD single:

Another digital format and even though they can hold 80 minutes of information (like a CD album would) record companies only fill up a small portion of the disc. Sometimes only 1 or 2 tracks on there totalling 5 minutes or so. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a plate of food with 2 green beans on and wondering where the rest of your meal is. Sometimes they're lovingly packaged though and when the music is good then you're into a winner. Also you get videos on there sometimes which you can watch on your computer. That is excellent.
