The Dirtbombs have opted to cover German scare-pop legends Sparks. Almost everyone that knows of the glam outsiders from Mars recalls hiding behind the telly from the creepy dude on keyboards with the Hitler-esque 'tache. Personally, my mum used to invite him round for tea & he was a most gracious gent indeed. Only murdered a couple of hamsters & a budgie to my knowledge & they ate too much anyway. On the A, they cover 'Sherlock Holmes' in a TV on the Radio meet Marc Bolan fashion. It really is quite a nice atmospheric piece with a skronking, divebombing 70's style fuzzy guitar that makes you wanna chuck oneself off gym benches at the skool disko. Except really slowly in a maudilin fashion. The flip gives us 'Nothing to Do' which has the more obvious floor filling tendencies & a more late 60's garage rock vibe. great vocal harmonies, cascading drums & a hearty nod to Daltrey & co give this side the edge. One for the mod/freakbeat discos definately! 7" only on In The RedTALENT IS AN ASSET AND DETROIT'S DIRTBOMBS SURELY HAVE IT.
