The Breeders: We're Gonna Rise (4AD) I just love Kim Deal's voice. There's something about the yearning and soulful passion she puts into every utterance. The pressing is not amazingly loud, so its lullabye lilt gets kinda lost. Teetring on the brink of bursting out into a full scale skree, it's just held back enough to maintain its addictive tension. The flip: 'German Demonstration' is a minimal deutsche type poem, sung over an harmonium like drone. It's great and I think our man at the helm was a little harsh on the ladies with his album review.

‘We’re Gonna Rise’ a soft-footed surge, charged with melancholy electricity and lit-up by fleeting starbursts of feedback.
The B-side, ‘German Demonstration’, is a spooked and spectral version of the amped-up ‘German Studies’, a highlight of the new album.
