What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Phil feeling unmoved.

More men with guitars making indie music. Oh yes... The Shout Out Louds new 7" is called 'Tonight I Have To Leave It' and it has the biggest sticker on a 7" that I've ever seen. It takes up about half the sleeve... it's crazy man. Musically it sounds exactly like Inbetween Days by The Cure and for once there's a record on Weekender which doesn't make me want to syphon the dangerous acids out of my body and drip them into my eyes.

What the label says:

Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Shout Out Louds have toured with the likes of Kings Of Leon, The Strokes (at their request), Magic Numbers and Secret Machines and make tender, timeless, beautiful and completely relevant pop music. Released on the 14th April and produced by Björn Yttling (Peter,Bjorn and John) ‘Tonight I Have To Leave It’ is the first single to be taken from their forthcoming album ‘Our Ill Wills’ released on 12th May and precedes a UK tour.  Later this year sees the band head to the USA with dates at SXSW and Coachella followed by a return to the UK with multiple festival slots expected.  Combining a mixture of yelped vocals, hypnotic echo chamber drumming with a sweeping string and piano melody alongside a more regular bass and guitar line up, the resulting sound is a joyful mix of spectoresque 60s chamber pop via 80s indie with contemporary lyrical concerns thrown in for good measure!
The B-side is also of interest as it’s a remix by Kleerup (who had a UK#1 hit last year w/Robyn) which has a million youtube views and growing

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
