 This record left our Ant feeling happy.
We got a CD here by Keith Canisus who is in Rumskib. 'Ferris Wheel Makeout' is a solo album of sorts although shoegaze guitars are provided by his buddy Jonas Munk (aka Manual). This is ultra deamy pop with some electronic beats and a really hazy lazy shoegaze vibe. Although it does get fairly uptempo in parts with the electro pop drum machines. An allround dream fest with layers upon layers of effects and interesting things happening. The later part of the album in particular delves well into 4AD Cocteu twins territory. This may well appeal to fans of Ulrich Schnauss' recent output.

Album Description:
Quince Records are proud to present the debut album from Danish multi-instrumentalist, singer & producer Keith Canisius. Keith Canisius (main composer in Rumskib) puts a personal twist on classic shoegaze and dreampop with his creative playfulness and multi-layered compositions. Ferris Wheel Makeout, his solo debut, is a dizzying good dream affair stacked with strong melodies and excellent guitar work. Local friend Jonas Munk (aka Manual) helps out with drum programming and post production for the finishing touches. Altogether a mix that the shoegazers and dreampoppers out there will love, as will fans of Rumskib, Manual, Ulrich Schnauss, Cocteau Twins, MBV & Serena Maneesh.
Album Details:
The album starts off with a dreamy sounding vocal, a massive wall of guitars come in sounding a little like "Drain Your Cosmetics" by Serena Maneesh (Norway). Jonas Munk's intelligent and well layered electronics signals something is about to happen when a dreamy voice appears sounding like the male version of the singer from Mum (Iceland). Keith Canisius is flexible in his style sounding like early 80's
electro pop with dreampop and shoegaze guitars at times to classic shoegaze and dreampop with a modern expression at other times, sometimes the tracks simply go almost manic with syrrealistic and manipulated vocals, guitars held together by stylistic retro or modern beats and electronics. But like on Rumskib s/t ("Without a doubt one of the most essential releases of the year. No record collection is
complete without one of these". Tremolo 100) the melodies are catchy and in front sometimes leaving you speechless. |
