PJ Harvey
The Devil
A Norman Records recommendation (13th March 2008)

This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.... these chocodiles Haley... These chocodiles. Anyway PJ Harvey has excelled herself this week by just releasing the best thing I've heard from her in donkeys years. 'The Devil' is a brilliant pop song with its guts mainly being a miserable yet bizarrely uplifting piano, which is ably supported by a 60's-esque beat with tambourines and that. It's well moody and someone piped up she's like a female Nick Cave.... which is probably quite true. If only he'd shave his filthy cornflake ridden tash off. This is the best tune she's done since 'Good Fortune'. I remember seeing her when 'Dry' came out at the Duchess in Leeds and I'm delighted to see she can still cut the cheese (cheap gag... should have been cut the mustard but why you'd want to cut something that slops freely from jars is a mystery to me ) Bring it on Polly.
