What we say

Rating: happy This record left our BRIAN D feeling happy.

I've just discovered The Teenagers are French after reading Brian's review. I had no idea. Not that it should make any difference at all but I'm always surprised to fnd out when people are French. It's one of my idiosyncracies you know. OK, I played their new album 'Reality Check' by 'em a couple of times to try and get my head around 'em and see what the fuss is and I think I can see it though this isn't my bag. It kicks off with 'Homecoming' which was a good single and is completely chocka with swearing which has appeal. The rest of the album has it's moments here and there as it delves through the realms of Euro-synth cladden indie pop/ rock. They can string a decent tune together though on listening to the album now I want to kick its face off. Go figure? The fickleness of the human being eh..... though I'm reasonably sure most folks who buy this will like it one minute and hate it the next. Probably not a bad debut though..... are you confused yet?

What the label says:

“Think Serge Gainsbourg spitting Gauloises bile at Moon Unit… brilliant …unforgettable” - NME
When Parisian trio The Teenagers burst into our lives with the ‘Homecoming’ EP in 2007, with its no holds barred lyrics set to a gentle lo-fi backdrop, we all fell in love. Not just with them, but with everything they see – and you see – through their teen-tinted glasses.
Lead singer Quentin Delafon, guitarist / synth man Dorian Dumont and bassist Michael Szpiner remind us what it’s like to be young. Between the three of them they shared a broad breadth of interests, including Slayer, M83, Weezer, Jacques Le Cont, Nirvana, Dillinger Escape Plan, Madonna and Beverley Hills 90210.
Now set to unleash their debut album, ‘Reality Check’, we can all have a piece of their nostalgic humorous world. Featuring new single ‘Love No’, The Teenagers continue with their cleverly crafted brand of synth-pop with candid lyrics about everything you say – but never hear on a record.
‘A sound of Velvet Underground simplicity and Jacques Lu Cont attitude, stuck in a blender with a gulp a beer, a dollop of sleaze and healthy sprinkle of reality bites’ - POP.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
