What the label says:

In 1997 six by seven released their first single ‘European Me’ which the NME described as “one of the greatest debut single of all time”. A great start indeed and the following single, another 7 minute dark and atmospheric grind, called 88-92-96, and became the NME single of the week. Things were going well for the band that’s live shows were quickly selling out, but things were not going to stay like that forever. Somebody once said that life is about timing. If this is so, perhaps six by seven’s timing could not have been worse. They made dark and atonal anti pop promoted by gigs of ferocious volume and attitude. In the year of their third album the NME’s Victoria Segal even proclaimed them as the best live band in Britain after seeing them perform in Paris. They were perhaps ahead of their time. If they were a new band now, instead of releasing their music to an audience more in favour of grooving to Fatboy slim and The Chemical brothers, or numbing out to the blandness of Travis and Coldplay, it may have been a different story. Maybe, but who gives a fuck. A good band is a good band and in that lays the persistence and the belief. It is true to say that six.by seven have had turbulent times. They got through them and even until recently been vilified for carrying on, as if that were a crime, to be an artist and forget the trends, that is what they have always done, their own thing. Well, when Peel was alive he thought they were worthy of five of his sessions. What is guaranteed however is that right now, six by seven will be in a rehearsal room or a studio forging their sound. Maybe no one will give a fuck, maybe their loyal underground following will? Maybe they won’t. Maybe no one will even realise what the band achieved until 30 years time. Maybe someone will write a book, maybe nobody will. Who gives a fuck, because nothing in the world can take the place of persistence? About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.
