We're so advanced here at the office we prematurely ditched our cassette deck, Betamax and laser disc players Doh!!! here's a tape by Peter Lyons 'Sunglows' on Tape Club records. A charming summery indie pop tune with warm melodies and gentle male vocal. Just as I'm thinking it sounds a bit like Hood Phil comes out with it. Although this is less melancholy and more erm.. summery sounding. 'Godseyes' on the b-side has some emotive strings a nice bassline, subtle electronics, acoustic guitar, the lot really. Phil is reminded of the first Simian album. Each single is limited to just 100 copies and highlights two tracks from each artist.
Peter Lyons, an electro-folk pop sensation from Southampton / Brighton graces the reels in style for this release. He started writing and recording at 13, and his first self-released album ‘One’ encompassed a mix of bedroom folk, electronica and multi-layered vocals. The tracks Sunglows and GodsEyes feature on the album ‘Two Sung With Closed Eyes’, and demonstrate his ability to write beautifully composed songs, which are enhanced by his knowledge of lo-fi production and recording.
Sunglows is casio-pop at its best. Hints of the Beach Boys, The Postal Service and Ampop are evident in this piece, which uses expert sequencing to support Peter’s soothing vocals. GodsEyes is a more reflective track, and the arrangement unfolds in such a way that you’ll be a Lyons fan for ever more once the track is over.

Like a British Yoni Wolf mixed with Radiohead and then spazzed together with some Will Oldham or some shit!!!
