OVERVIEW: Debut EP release from the wonderful Fredo Viola - New York based multimedia artist with a voice like no other. Remixes are courtesy of Roland 'Dark Soldier' Appel, Norwegian remix master Prins Thomas and celebrated electronic technicians Tunng. Welcome to an exciting and innovative artist for 2008.

Fredo Viola doesn't need much. Give him a Nikon Coolpix camera and he'll make you a video. Let him talk gibberish and he'll give you a lyric. Show him a broadband connection and he'll show you a worldwide community of bedroom blog-boffins who are his dearest collaborators, even if he's never met them. If he fires up his synthesiser he can whip up a techno-orchestra. And if he lets free his voice, then loops it, then layers it, then folds it in on itself, Fredo Viola can create pop music that makes the tips of the hairs on your ears go waaaaah.

Fredo has already been collaborating with Massive Attack and this debut EP is the perfect introduction to this wonderful new artist. The choral majesty of Fredo's voice and the utterly refreshing production sound sets this EP apart as something very exciting indeed. Three different tracks open the account; the sweet electronic waves of the title track, the playful sounds of Hogwash and the dark demented abrasive Ether. It's quite the debut.

Mixes of The Sad Song are courtesy of an international line-up; the sublime Tunng, the rapidly emerging Roland 'Dark Soldier' Appel, and the Norwegian remix master Prins Thomas complete the package in fine style. Fredo Viola is working on his live show at the moment. His debut album 'The Turn' is released in the Spring 2008.

About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!
