Alan Sparhawk from Low is back with a new self titled project called Retribution Gospel Choir and it's recorded by Mark Kozelek. So you'd think it would be great oui? Well I wouldn't go that far... On first listen the word 'disappointment' didn't do it justice, however on 2nd listen it's sounding a wee bit better. An easy way to sum it up is to say it sounds like Low (Sparhawk's voice is so distinctive) but in a pub rock band kind of way. ... There's a few tracks from the last Low LP here played here.. If you want to hear Low done in a more rock kind of way then this is for you.Retribution Gospel Choir is the new project of the phenomenal LOW guitarist/singer ALAN SPARHAWK
Different than his garage outfit Black Eyed Snakes, RGC is a solid rockband with a romantic edge. Produced by Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon, Red
House Painters etc.), Retribution Gospel Choir sounds like a middleweight version of Low, with a serious drummer who needs to be kept under control
by the rest of the band. RGC combines the vulnerable quality of Low with the dark unpredictable edge of Sparhawk's voice - melodies are sweet,
dynamics overwhelming, power muscular and songs very compact. In the band besides Sparhawk is Low bass player Matt Livingston, drummer Eric
Pollard and on one song Low's Mimi Parker lends back-up vocals. Two RGC originals on this album were already performed by Low on 'Drums And
Guns' .
