What the label says about One Sure Thing, by The Conspirators (with Judy Dyble):
3 Track CD single 1. One Sure Thing 2. Take Me To Your Leader 3. Connected 2 Track 7” single 1. One Sure Thing 2. Take Me To Your Leader. In 1967, at the start of Electric Folk rock, there was Judy Dyble with Fairport Convention. With the same haunting voice, the same ability to make you stop what you are doing, and listen. Because Judy didn’t, and doesn’t just sing, she tells a story, and you want to listen. And then there was a band formed in late 2006, from a hauntingly beautiful part of North Yorkshire, called the Conspirators. With the songs that many people had wished they had, and could have written. They also have a singer of the highest order who makes people stop, and lend an ear to their modern, but classically inspired songs. And then an idea was born. Like all the best ideas, it grew. When it finished it went something like this. Visit 1967, and 2007 at the same time. Make some music that is old and new. Fresh and revisited, influenced, but original. Classic and contemporary. One sure thing was the undoubted highlight of the seminal debut album from Fairport Convention. 40 Years on, Judy Dyble, the legendary Judy Dyble, revisits one of the greatest songs ever written. But this time, it’s fresh and modern courtesy of a re-write from the Conspirators, and the results are simply stunning. Join in perfect harmony the voices of Judy and Genevieve, the stylish playing of the Conspirators and one of the most exciting releases of the burgeoning 2008 is playing right now, as you read this. The story is undoubtedly fascinating; the results are a joy, an exceptional and remarkable recording. That would be enough for most, but not for this pairing………Double AA side, ‘Take Me To Your Leader’ sees the Conspirators debut their own work with stunning effect, its driving guitar riff urging the vocals along meaning an unforgettable work from one of the North of England’s finest. Even the supposed B side is a work to behold, the haunting Conspirators ballad ‘Connected’ rounds up a package of 10 of the strongest minutes of debut, and comeback ever released
